Indiana's New Graduated Driver Licensing Law

After 07/01/2010:

Students who take driver education and may obtain a permit at 15 years 180 days if they are enrolled in a driver education program. Students who do not take driver's education may obtain a permit at 16 years.

Students who successfully complete driver education may obtain a license at 16 years 180 days.  Students who do not complete driver education may obtain a license at 16 years 270 days.

All students are required to complete 50 hours (10 after dark) of supervised driving with a licensed driver that is at least 25 years old.

OBTAINING A PERMIT
Students who are enrolled in a state approved driver education course are not required to take a written exam at the License Branch to obtain a driver education permit.

Three weeks before the first day of class we will mail you the required CDE form to obtain the driver education permit.

You must also take proof of identification information (list included with CDE form or may be accessed on the BMV website) with you to get your permit as well as successfully pass an eye exam to obtain a permit.

Driving Privileges
The driver education permit is not valid unitl the student has completed 1 hour of driver education. At this time the student is legal to practice with a parent or legal guardian and an instructor.
Once the student has successfully completed the driver education course and the permit has been validated the student may drive with the same privileges as an Indiana Learner Permit.

"I Drive Safely"

Sammers Driving School has partnered with "I Drive Safely" to offer an online Driver Education option.
Once the online course is completed and a certificate has been received you may register with us to receive a CDE form to
obtain the driver education permit and then complete the 6 hours behind the wheel instruction required by the state to complete the
program.

OBTAINING A LICENSE

Students who have completed a Sammers State Certified driver education course with a grade of "B-"/80% or above in both classroom and driving portions of the course qualify for a waiver which allows the student to complete the "Roadtest" with us if they choose to do so.  We schedule these tests on a separate day close to their date of license eligibility.

There is a $25 fee for this test and you must call to schedule the test with us.
